Health & Exercise Data
To earn coins for your workouts and exercise, Powour connects to your device’s health platform — Apple Health on iPhone or Health Connect on Android. That lets us count your exercise sessions automatically, without you having to log anything manually.
At a glance
- Used for: detecting exercise sessions, calculating workout coins + Hour of Powour
- Not used for: ads, selling data, health assessments, or insurance purposes
- You control it: you can disconnect anytime (you’ll just stop earning workout coins)
Why Powour asks for health data access
Why connect to Apple Health or Health Connect?
Your phone and wearable already track your exercise — we just read what’s there. Connecting lets Powour:
- automatically detect completed exercise sessions (walks, runs, gym workouts, cycling, yoga, etc.)
- award coins without manual check-ins
- keep earning accurate and reduce gaming
If you don’t connect, Powour can still detect some movement via trip tracking, but won’t capture dedicated workouts — especially those done with a wearable or stationary exercises like yoga or strength training.
What we collect
Powour collects only exercise session data — the minimum needed to award coins.
We collect
- Exercise sessions: activity type (e.g. walking, running, cycling, swimming, gym workout), start time, end time, and duration
- Recording method: whether the session was actively started by you or passively detected in the background
We don’t collect
- Heart rate, blood pressure, sleep, nutrition, or any other health metrics
- Step counts or move minutes
- Body measurements or medical information
- Raw sensor data from your wearable
We read exercise sessions only — nothing else from Apple Health or Health Connect.
How it works
- You connect Powour to Apple Health or Health Connect via the app
- A third-party health data provider reads your exercise session records from the health platform
- That provider sends those sessions to Powour’s backend
- Powour calculates your activity minutes and awards coins
Exercise data flows one way: from your health platform → Powour. We never write data back to your health platform.
What your workplace / sponsor can see
If you’re part of a workplace program, your organisation receives group-level reporting (for example: participation rates and total exercise minutes across their team).
They do not see your individual exercise sessions, activity types, or workout history.
Battery & background detection
Will this drain my battery?
Powour doesn’t run its own health sensors. We read exercise records that your phone or wearable has already captured. The battery impact is minimal — comparable to any app that reads from Apple Health or Health Connect.
Does it track me in the background?
Powour can detect exercise sessions recorded in the background by your device’s health platform. This means if your phone or wearable passively records a walk or run, Powour can pick it up without you opening the app. But we’re only reading exercise sessions — not monitoring you continuously.
Android devices
On some Android phones, fitness and health apps sometimes don’t share data with Health Connect by default. You may need to enable sync in the app’s settings.
Storage, security, and deletion
How long do you keep this data?
- Exercise session summaries (activity type, duration, time) are kept for 1 year only, so you can see your history and we can reward your for progress. When you delete your account, this data is deleted.
- We do not store raw health platform data beyond what’s described above.
Who can access it?
Access is restricted and logged. Data is protected in transit and at rest, and only authorised staff can access it for support and system integrity.
Can I delete it?
Yes — you can request deletion of your account and associated data via the Powour app’s User Profile page.
You’re in control
- Disconnect health data anytime in the Powour app or your phone’s health settings (workout coins will stop).
- Revoke access directly in Apple Health or Health Connect settings at any time — Powour will no longer receive exercise data.
- Disconnecting does not affect your existing coin balance or trip-based earnings.
